ABOUT US
OlaMind develops accurate, easy-to-use tools for community-based pre-assessment of behavioral challenges. Our first tool, OlaMind-ASD, focusses on identifying difficulties in the area of social communication. OlaMind-ASD analyses the reported behaviors of children and adolescents aged 4–18 years, relates them to the clinical diagnostic criteria for social communication disorders, and suggests next steps.
OlaMind was developed by Rachelle Lavi, the mother of five fabulous children and a professional science editor. I repeatedly experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to communicate a child's difficulties in the areas of behavior, social communication, and attention deficit to doctors, teachers, and others. The struggles to obtain correct and complete diagnosis and useful treatment for my children spurred me to research and then develop an assessment method to help others in similar situations.
The results of a pilot test of OlaMind-ASD involving 55 children and adolescents were very promising. OlaMind-ASD correctly captured all of the participants whose social communication problems had already been formally diagnosed. OlaMind-ASD also correctly identified as not needing diagnosis 80% of those who did not have any diagnosis. OlaMind-ASD suggested that the remaining 20% of those without a diagnosis be assessed for social communication issues and, in at least one case (out of four), subsequent assessment proved this suggestion to be correct. Further validation tests are in the pipeline.
OlaMInd-ASD can be helpful to parents who are considering a psycho-didactic assessment, psychological assessment, ADHD assessment or other types of assessments that are related to behavioral issues. If you are concerned about your child or adolescent’s behavior or development, you are invited to register and use OlaMind.

OlaMind for Parents
If your child or adolescent doesn't seem to 'get' what people say, has social difficulties, and challenging or seemingly odd behaviors, it is worth checking if the underlying issue is social communication. Children and youth with normal or superior intelligence can have social communication difficulties but often they are not correctly identified, which can prevent access to effective treatments. By identifying the underlying problem, you can start on the path to improving life for your child. Use OlaMind-ASD to obtain insights and an informative analysis of your child's difficulties.
OlaMind for Healthcare providers
Do you treat children or adolescents who act out at school or at home or who keep accumulating psychological/psychiatric diagnoses but don't show any real improvement with treatment? These are common patterns in verbal children with normal or superior intelligence and undiagnosed social communication deficits. Often, such children cannot be diagnosed before age 4 years. OlaMind-ASD analyses your patient's behavior in terms of the DSM-5 clinical diagnostic criteria for ASD and SCD. It provides insights and supports decision making regarding the patient's needs.
OlaMind for Educators
As a teacher, you are increasingly expected to identify and meet all the educational needs of the children and youth you work with. In your mainstream classroom, you need to work with children with special needs, including many who do not have a formal diagnosis. Meeting their educational needs often extends beyond academic attainment to the behavioral and social realms. Some of the most challenging children and youth, and among the least likely to have been accurately and fully diagnosed, are those with social communication deficits. They may understand what you say but not what you mean. They may have tremendous performance differences across subjects. They may act out or be excessively introverted. They may react badly to change, and they may be bullied. Use OlaMind-ASD to examine whether your struggling student may have social communication deficits. This insight can help you identify educational approaches suitable for the underlying problem.
OlaMind for Health Maintenance Organizations
Children and youths with normal or superior intelligence and social communication deficits are often not diagnosed or misdiagnosed. This places a heavy burden not only on their families, but also on the health system. Such children and youths typically visit their primary health care provider repeatedly, their visits last longer, they undergo multiple assessments, and receive unsuitable treatments. OlaMind-ASD provides HMOs with a means to identify these patients earlier and refer them to a comprehensive differential diagnostic assessment. This in turn can lead to the earlier provision of effective treatments, so reducing costs to the health provider. Contact OlaMind to discuss how OlaMind-ASD could work for your organization.
OlaMind for Researchers
OlaMind-ASD can be used as a research tool in the field of social communication. Responses are saved in a queryable database and can be used to compare phenotypes between different populations. OlaMind-ASD can also be used as a proxy for full diagnosis to estimate the incidence and prevalence of social communication disorders.
